The swishing of a cloak heralded Chanelle's entrance to the common room. The sound of the fabric sweeping against her knees reached her ears and she cringed. The whole summer, she'd been free of this school and now she was back to this prison of magic.

Eventually, Chanelle got to an ivy green armchair and she sank into it, pulling out her books. Her cell phone clattered to the ground by her feet. Picking it up, she thumbed the touch screen. It flickered on and flashed right back off. It didn't work in Hogwarts because of all the stupid magic in the air. Speaking of magic....

She pulled out her Transfiguration book and started reading through the materials. She studied a moving image of someone using the correct wrist movements to vanish a book. She pulled out her wand - it was thin and light, like her. Whipping her blonde hair behind her and out of the way, she started flicking her wrist in the way demonstrated by the book. She murmured the incantation over and over before setting her History of Magic book on the table in front of her - she didn't care if she couldn't make this book come back.

She flicked her wand and thought the incantation in her head. With what she thought was a faint pop, half of the book disappeared. She ran her tongue over the back of her teeth, something she did whenever she was deep in thought. She tried again and managed to make the other half disappear. Now she had to make it reappear. Her sheet of hair blocked her face as she looked down to study the material again.
